Role Reasoning: The role of Myth is fascinating for Elektra because it goes along with the idea what everyone from the outside has called Elektra over the years. Due to her going back and forth between assassin and trying to turn her life around and back again people see Elektra as someone to fear. At her cannon point she is just starting to be accepted as an actual hero with Matt even thinking to himself “she is prefect she is daredevil” as he dies. So it’s interesting to make her struggle with the more negative stereotypes of traits once again while trying to remain ‘good’.

What experience challenged your character's core beliefs? How did they handle this or change from it?

Elektra’s core beliefs were challenged by her decision to take up the mantel of Daredevil. She originally does it when Matt Murdock is in prison simply as a way to convince him to trust her. She doesn’t actually want to be Daredevil at first and simply does it to prove a point to Matthew so that he will trust her and agree to work with her on the mission she wants to do. To start out with it she simply would think ‘how would Matthew do this’ but as time went on she found her own way to go about things. Elektra previously didn’t worry about having people fear her, she was happy to not have them know her at all and drop in. Now since she doesn’t kill people she makes a point to terrorize them, to instill fear so they never want to cross her again.

When she had heard Matt had died at Fisks hand she thinks “and now the only person who could stop me is dead” and she attempts to go after Fisk running into Matt it’s obviously not true, crisis averted. They both continue on as Daredevil for a while but then Matt actually dies and we see Elektra continuing on as Daredevil anyways. For six months she has continued on as Daredevil changing from an assassin to someone who doesn’t kill and even though at first she had taken the mantle over to prove something, she seemingly has changed and continued on even without Matt to impress.

What is a headcanon (or two) you feel strongly about and that you prefer playing your character with? How is this supported in canon and why do you think it benefits the character's story?

Comics are fun, when it comes to Elektra you have several comics that retcon and contradict each other from run to run around her life pre her first death and her training with both the chaste and the hand. I prefer to play her with her most recent retcon which blends some of it together some of them. Elektra’s mother died when she was born and it was an awkward topic around the house. And she very much loved her father she struggled with the death of her mother and drowned herself in all the things she tried, art, dance, martial arts where she got caught up in the mess between the chaste and the hand prior to going to Columbia. Because of her issues around her mothers death from day one I headcanon Elektra as being uncomfortable around death to this day when it comes to anything outside the act of killing. We see Elektra be unable to console people she cares about when people they care about die. In one issue she talks about how she can’t even stand cut flowers because they’re like corpses.

I also prefer to cut the Frank Miller storyline where Elektra is raped by her father to replace her mother and eventually goes crazy and ends up in a mental institution because it was only mentioned in one book where Frank Miller felt they need to show everyone how edgy he is and it doesn’t fit the other times we see her backstory.

What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?

In most of her solo works Elektra is shown as having a distinct moral code that she only kills bad people when she is the one who is in control of her own actions. Even when she working as an assassin she is picky about the contracts that she takes and only chooses them. When she was confronted by a hallucination of her mother accusing her of being a bad person and killing she was able to justify each one within her moral code. Once she became Daredevil Elektra stopped killing people, not because she felt it was wrong at first but to prove a point to Matthew. However at her current cannon point Matt has been dead for 6 months and Elektra continues to act as Daredevil though when she struggles with it we see her think ‘I’m trying my love’ as an indication that it’s still more about Matt then herself.

Outside of moral decisions around killing Elektra also has strong feelings about defending the weak from the strong. It’s important to her but in practice she can get too impatient trying to help people and try to force them to strengthen themselves. She sees examples of herself in young people that make her think back to the ways she was manipulated as a child and teenager and she desperately wants to stop similar things to happen to others.

She’s has no problem lying or manipulation to get what she wants. We see her manipulate Frank to kill someone she’s too close to and doesn’t want to assassinate. We see her lie straight to peoples face when asked questions she doesn’t want them to know the answer to. She doesn’t have any qualms around it.

What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise.

Elektra struggles with speaking on softness and emotions. While she cares about people deeply, she has trouble at expressing any of it with words. Which is unique to this set of emotions because Elektra is not one who is short on words generally she is always telling people what she thinks. We see her frequently equate softness to weakness throughout her appearances in comics though recently she’s tempered it a bit. She still doesn’t know how to provide support to people outside of physical touch or actions.

Twice we’ve seen her taken in orphaned teenage girls (Nina in Elektra volume 2 and Alice in Daredevil volume 6) after their parents were murdered. We see her take two different approaches with Nina she tries to be the ‘calm cool friend’ and Nina ends up killed and later revived and turned by the hand. This enforces the feeling of “weakness” so with Alice we see her try to train the weakness out of her instead of nurturing the pain. She acts like Stick acted to her as a child and pushes Alice to stop being weak. It doesn’t work out and Alice ends up killing someone on accident which is a mess of it’s own. The only times we actually see her provide comfort to Alice it’s never with her words, which remain sharp, but by hugging her or performing acts of service such as bringing her breakfast in bed.
